IMPROVING LISTENING SKILL OF GRADE VIII STUDENTS AT SMP NEGERI 2 GALANG THROUGH POP SONG

Abstrak

The objective of this research is to find out whether pop song significant or not to improve students’ listening skill at SMP Negeri 2 Galang. This research is pre-experimental research design consists of one group pre-test and post-test. There are two variables of this research namely dependent and independent variables. The independent variable is Pop Song and dependent variable is students’ listening skill at eight grade of SMP Negeri 2 Galang. The Population of this research is the eight grade of SMP Negeri 2 Galang in 2016/2017 academic year. The sample of this research is selected by using purposive sampling technique and the selected class is VIIIa consisted of 24 students. In collecting the data, the researcher conduct test covered pre and post test in order to measure the students’ listening skill before and after given pop song media. The researcher analized the data statically.The result of the test showed that the students’ mean score in posttest 72,91 is higher than pretest 31,16. To know the significant difference between pretest and posttest, the researcher compared the value of t-counted and t-table by applying 0.05 level of significance for two-tailed test with 23 degree of freedom (24-1=23), the researcher found that the t – table is 3,768. It means that the t-counted (9,15) is higher than t-table (3,768) and the hypothesis of this research is accepted. The researcher concluded that using Pop Song can improve students’ listening skill at eight grade of SMP Negeri 2 Galang.  Key words:improving, listening skill, and pop song.
